Congrats KARL!

Karl R. just got back from masters nationals and had quite a time. In his own words:

"Back from Master Nats. Went all right, I learned a lot, and competed
ok. I guess it can be said that I beat some strong competition and
lost to some as well.

Results:

Kilo...as mentioned 4th.

Mechanical default on Points. Was in 3rd when I tore my crank of my
bike.

Sprints 4th. Greatest moment was a standing ovation for beating
McClain on cane creek clinchers. People loved it as I tried to tear
off my handle bars in a sprint with a photo finish to win 2 straight
from behind in the 1/4 finals to place.

Team Sprints 3rd. (Lacorte and I had a fun, tore it up on our second
effort and our third team member held it together for the second
fastest time)

In conclusion, there was some podium action for DC Racing. (Matt, I
have to share a quick story, while getting set for the kilo, I had
to listen to the officials give me shit for my sexy skin suit,
busting my ass while I'm trying to focus, whistling at me like I was
a piece of ass in a mini skirt, assholes I tell you. Literally cat
called me.)

Anyways, thanks for all of your support. I entered as a nobody and
everyone on the team took a chance on a bulky red head on a black
conversion fixed gear on a winter team ride...I hope I made you
guys proud this year. Its been great!

Tyler & Mike, thanks for making this year come together. You served
as coaches and mentors answering a thousand questions a week on
gearing, repairs, and such.

Sam, thanks for your efforts to keep my bike together, week by week
dealing with my inquiries and requests.

And Tom...you were a great inspiration with all of your support. You
really gave me confidence as I grew as a rider, and your
personal words of wisdom meant very much. Your an outstanding
individual and it was a pleasure to have you there to support me.

My season is done boys. I don't think I have the necessary skill for
elite nationals this year, but Im getting there week by week.

I'm beat. A weekend of rest, and I hope to see everyone on Monday,
though I'm not sure I will race, nats was hard on the body.

Everyone have a great weekend.

I'm out for a cold one....ahhhhhh!"

Well Done Karl! Well Done!

IN OTHER NEWS...
Will Upgraded to 3 on the track in a very hard fought finale at the Kissena Wed. night series. Not only did he upgrade but he also won the b series for the year!

Jesse G. Has been riding like an animal and got his upgrade to cat 3 on the road, good luck Jesse!

Todd also got his cat 3 upgrade on track. Boy, not too many cat 4's left. i better do something about that!

Tyler has had some great results at the track and some crits. He is in Nicaragua for the Vuelta currently.

Eugene D. has been TEARING UP the local tri scene and has been putting the local "pro" tri guys to shame with class that is beyond compare! Good job guys!!!

back to business

well, this has been a fast summer so far! About half the team has upgraded to cat 3 in road and a handful of guys are now 3's on the track too! Congrats to all the freshly upgraded riders!

NY State Track championships were last weekend and just about everyone who raced got a medal! in my case, all i had to do was show up to the team sprint and take the silver! DC Racing co-hosted the event and it was a great success. Everyone got plenty of water and pasta salad on one of the hottest weekends of the year. Hopefully we can do many more of these next season.

Since State champs was also the nationals qualifier this means that a few of our riders are set to race at nationals. DC Racers to compete at the nations highest level? GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!

So only a few more races left this season, then we may all participate in some form of a social life again. Most of our Cat 3 guys are signed up for the Mengoni Grand Prix so hopefully there will be results even though it seems to be 'that part of the season'. I am sure most of the team will be excited to take a break but for me, with the shop slowing down a bit i will try my hand at cross racing. I cannot wait!!

So hopefully i will have time to update more often but who knows. I will probably be too busy training for The Bear Mtn. fall classic.

ON TRACK

Just wanted to keep everyone hip. The team has been doing great at both Kissena and T-town with many wins and placements from Matt and Will and Jordan.

Karl has been busy winning every track race he enters as well as taking 1st in the Hartford Crit last month! THATS A BIG DEAL!!! Also he secured a spot among NYC's finest (no, not the police!) in the Empire State Games Qualifier..

Eugene D. Has decided that Shotput is more fun than cycling and can be seen throwing expensive equipment around FDR Park... He has also expressed interest in Ultimate Fighting Championships. Hopefully he will have time to continue his Tri and now track Dominance(yeah that has a capital D)!!!

Matt and Jordan have both Upgraded to Cat 3 on the road (Tyler too??) Things are going great! Todd, despite turning his knee into hamburger, has been doing great at Prospect Park...(sniffsniff) Do i smell another series victory??

New Member: Alex Graybeal. The Kid races for Columbia Colligiate (you bet i spelled that wrong!) And is a super nice guy. Hopefully he can get us some more placements in the Cat 4's now that we've had upgrades.

I will try to keep updates consistant but i am overwhelmed by work. Sorry to all the people and obligations i have neglected..

The Season Settles In..

Now that the 'new season smell' has faded and been replaced by pollen, we get down to the nitty gritty... Regional Races!
At Jiminy Peak Jordan got 6th at the top of the final climb. Bear Mtn. went well with Jordan getting 7th, Matt missing top 10 by one placing and Sam getting a (ahem) respectable 49th place..

At the track Karl haas been winning about every race he enters and Most of the other guys are doing very well! Matt, Will and Tyler are placing concistantly and Eugene placed in both his first and second track races ever!

Floyd Bennet Field has been a bit of a bust. DC Racing has been super active in the feild there but yet to see some results. This should change shorlty as Karl has just made his 4 upgrade. Sam has put in an upgrade to be a cat 3 crasher, he has the point and experience to fall with the best of themnow that he has lost ounces of flesh on the cheese grater we call Floyd...

Tyler is planning our event for the track this year which should take place around the first week of aug. Look for more info on that soon.

Status Report...

It has been a busy few weeks for the guys here. Especially the trackies!
Last week Will got top placing at both T-Town ad Kissena!
Matt and Karl achieved total domination at T-town this sat. winning every race that they entered and by quite a margin from what i hear.
On sunday Todd M. won the spring series in the 3/4 cat. Later that day Will got 2nd and Matt third at Opening Weekend at Kissena Velodrome!

Great Work to all of you! Looking good in those new kits, by the way. With Jiminy Peak next week and Bear Mtn. the following, there will be no lack of races to attend...

I got my picture in the NY Times this, check out the article at this link:

Spring is here...

With the weather getting really nice, 2 things have been happening.
a) Lots of training in preparation of upcoming events (bear, jimminy, Wed. night track series). Updates with results will come.
b) Lots of WORK! Less time to update team blogs. so here is a quick heads up on team results:

Battenkill-Roubaix: Todd 15th, Matt 15th.
Bethel: We lost the series due to bad weather and bad legs. Jordan got 2nd overall, Great Job!
NYC Spring Series: Todd is still in the lead.
Track: Will Got a 4th at T-town on the 14th of april and i think a 5th at Kissena the next weekend for the early spring races. Rad!

BTW, Are kits are here!!!

VICTORY!!!

Yesterday after Ballan won at Flanders I was hardly able to contain myself. After hearing that Todd won the 3/4 race in Central Park today I am convinced that this day will go down in the history books as the greatest day of cycling in 2007.

Since Todd took 4th on sat. in Prospect Park and 1st on sun. I guess that means he wins the series???
Last week Matt got a very confusing 2nd at Branchbrook, NJ and Jordan got 6th at Bethel, CT. Next week at bethel should be especially brutal since Jordan is now down from the leader by 2 points and DC Racing looks to keep the lead in the team competition.

In cat 5 action Karl got 2nd and Eugene gt 6th Sat. At PP. I am not sure of any result on sunday but i can only guess that karl pulverized anyone in his path so i am gonna go ahead and say that he won the series for cat.5!

Next Saturday we have a squad of 7 guys going to race the infamous Battenkille-Roubaix Road Race. 16 miles of dirt roads, 28 miles of climbing.... Hmmmm... This should make Bethel that much more painful the next morning.
Hopefully we can sweep the podium Mapei style.

Battenkille-Roubaix Squad:
Dave Burrus
Michael Berk
Jordan Copeland
Sam Fiorino
Jesse Gutierrez
Todd M.
Matt Pascale

Sorry for the delay in post, i have been occupied with food poisoning.

DC Racing Takes Team Lead at bethel!

In a fast race this sunday, Matt P. got 3rd with Jordan C. Coming in right behind at 4th.
Will V. gets the 'Spirit Award" fo coming in 14th with a broken index finger..

With the points racked up this week, DC Racing was pushed into 1st in the team competition and Jordan now remains 1 small point behind the series leader. Thanks to the efforts of the entire team, the Cat. 4 leader, Joe Straub, Was covered in every attempt he made to get away. With no chance of getting away he remained outside of point placement this week.

Looks like next sunday will be an interesting 4 race with the 2 leaders being so close. THe team will have its work cut out for itself keeping an eye on Joe Straub and the Winner of last weeks sprint who is now in 3rd...

Also, the good folks at Tifosi have supplied DC Racing with team eyewear! (www.tifosioptics.com)

Now go buy a Raleigh and a pair of Tifosi!

2nd Week of racing...
Saturday 3/10/07
Branchbrook NJ.
4/5 race. Will and Sam BOTH crashed in a 20 man pileup 300 meters from the line...
Sam sprained his wrist and got x-rays, Will tore his jersey and ate coffee cakes...

3/4 race. Mike B. and Jordan Got away in a 4 man break. Matt and Tyler stayed and locked things down.
Mike got 2nd, Jordan got 4th. I think Tyler got top 10...

35+ race. Jordan, 2 breaks, 1 day.. Guy is a manimal! 5th Place (looked like 3rd to me).

Sunday 3/11/07
Bethel CT.
Cat 4 race. Attack! Black! Chase! Attack some more!
Jordan gets away with 4 laps to go, gets 2nd by inches from what i heard. Matt stayed away from the pack for quite a bit.
Matt got 9th, Will got 10th, Sam got 16, Jesse and Tricky B. got 18+19 but we are not sure who got which. Every DC rider in the top 20, Great Work!

Central Park NYC.
I heard that Mike, Tyler and Todd punished the pack.
Todd got 2nd! Current points leader! Tyler was 5th (?). Rad.

On a down Note, Eugene D. got hit by a car friday night but he is in good spirits with help of some Ultracodeine (probably spelled that wrong).

Off To A Good Start!!!

The '07 racing season kicked off this past weekend. DC Racing has a strong showing in every race we were present:

Sat. March 3rd. Branchbrook NJ:
Jordan Copeland took 4th in the masters race after being in a break. Immediately after that he entered the 3/4 race and got 11th!

Sun. March 4th Bethel CT:
In his first Cat 5 race, Eugene Dougherty won the sprint to take 2nd for that race! To quote Jordan "I guess tri-athletes CAN sprint."

Speaking of Jordan C., in the Cat 4 race the man took off on the 2nd, Never to be seen again! The rest of the team worked excellent together, making sure that Jordan had a chance to et to the line withought being caught. A lot of hard work and a few pimes later and Jordan got 2nd, putting himself and DC Racing in 2nd for the series tittle so far.

Central Park, NYC:
Congrats to our newest team member Todd M. for getting 4th in the 3/4 race (even tough it did look like 3rd to everyone).

In the 5 race Karl Roesler threw a figurative roundhouse kick to the feild and came in 1st place!

All this in only the first week of the season.

Welcome, everyone, to a new season of the greatest sport on the planet! DC Racing Kicks off it's season At the Bethel Spring Series and The Branchbrook Series this coming weekend. Will Vallar road4/track4
Matt Pascale road4/track4
Mike Berk road4/track4
Jordan Copeland road4
Tyler Matta road4/track2
Dave Burrus road4
Eugene Dougherty road5
Jesse Gutierrez road4
Karl Roesler road5/track5
Tom Siano road4
Todd M??? road4/track4

There has been a lot of talk through out the team about the coming track season. After this long, harsh winter of being off the track, I for one am craving a little time on the track so when the racing begins in april (holy crap! Just 6 weeks away!) i won't be the squirreliest guy in the paceline. Also, i am sure, as with the early road races, that EVERYBODY is itching to see what they can do and to quote Matt "if all this training paid off".

Keep checking back for more re-posts, rider profiles, and race results. This whole blog thing is new to me so hopefully i can get it right or hand it off to another team member (hint, hint).
